Day 3 - Windsor and Touring

Day 3 - Windsor and Touring #westhighlandway2024

Today will be Windsor Castle, then meet up with a friend of Farah's she hasn't seen in many years (and her family), then her cousins that live here, or at least one of them, the other might not make it

This night was the opposite of yesterday when I slept beyond soundly, took me a while to fall asleep, woke up at 4am for an hour+, then back to fitful slumber... I really do blame this stuff upper lip... Er... Mattress

Now the hunt for hopefully good coffee continues

I should probably have been taking photos of the coffee places by I didn't realize this would turn into a quest. Today's was actually pretty decent, if pricy but the brownie was not great, would have tried the croissant too for continuity but they weren't ready when we went.

Walked to Paddington station to catch a train to Slough->Windsor. The station reminded me of Frankfurt a bit but I like this style a lot... Now we wait

Ok, got to Windsor, had a bad donut (but I'm very picky), got some headache meds cause my head is not having it. Tickets were for 11 so have 30 mins left. The town before the castle is quite adorable though

Fun little something or other before we went in

Couldn't take any photos inside but it was pretty interesting with the audio guide, lots of rooms and paintings and very fancy ceilings and tapestries. Also saw St George's Chapel where Elizabeth is buried... Still mad she couldn't last a few more months before I became Canadian

Do wish I could have taken some pics inside because once again they were "ah, this is why the French revolted" in terms of opulence. But like really crazy ornate furniture and amazing painted ceilings.

Spent a bunch of time walking down the "long walk" of the castle after some food and coffee (which was pasable, Nero's) with her friend, husband and two kids, played soccer-adjacent things with the 8 year old who had boundless energy

Now heading back to the hotel to get ready to meet her cousins in a couple of hours, also trying to coordinate with my uncle to see if we do something else together, maybe breakfast tomorrow.

Pictures of the room, hallway and bathroom with a preview of my onlyfeet for scale in terms of the actual size of the shower... To be honest it's only really the bed and pillows that really get to me, the size and worst-in-class soundproofing are much easier to ignore and forgive

We are on our way to the resto to meet her cousins and randomly bumped into the brother of her friend we met in Windsor who she hadn't seen since he was like 16? He was walking with his wife who her friend's husband hadn't even met though the brother moved here in Aug from NYC

Insanely small world, what are the odds in London which is not a small city really

Went to see her cousins, met the youngest one's bf, probably an upcoming trip at some point to their engagement is in the future if I had to guess... It was really fun, had some Greek food and caught up before we went back to chill.

Looks like tomorrow will be busy as my uncle's been cooking, we're doing breakfast and a couple of tours... Let's see what we end up doing!
