About to head out towards a chocolate factory but I'll be driving so no updates until then!
-
Made it! Chocolate time.
-
Here we are, of course it's nestled amidst mountains
-
Finally in bed it's time to POST.
-
Chocolate factory was neat, the first part was your of chocolate through the ages starting from the Aztecs through the development of it in Switzerland a bit cheesy but in a good way. At the end we got to see them make some small bars and then a toon of samples
-
This is the machine that spits out the little bars
-
Here's a short video of it wrapping them
-
And us being cute and silly tehe
-
In case anyone needed their balls roasted
-
On our way to destroy the one ring
-
The drive to the chocolate place was like 1.5 hours? Forgot to mention, then a short driver to a Gruyere cheese factory which was a bit underwhelming in price to value ratio (though we didn't go during a demonstration ), best part we're a vid showing the process and the cellar
-
Something I'd sorry of known but seeing how much food and water cows need per day to make milk and how much of that goes into cheese is a bit crazy
-
This is the holy cheese
-
Then another hour and a half to go through Lauterbrunnen to get to Stechelberg where we would the catch the cable car to the car-less town of Gimmelwald (and yes, we left the french part of Switzerland as the names may have clued you in)
-
This is going up the cable car (also bonus pic of the paragliders of which there are quite a few)
-
Arrival at Gimmelwald
-
And our hotel Pension Gimmelwald which has an attached "Honesty Shop" where they put prices on stuff and you just leave the money with no supervision, saw a few more later in the day.
-
View from the hotel terrace, plus some bonus views
-
We met one of the people working at the hotel, Guido, an argentinian who'd been country hopping but ended up staying here due to the vibes, we took a break and tried their Schwarz Mönch dark beer, usually not a fan of them but this was good, though with the view what wouldn't be
-
We then walked around a bit going up somewhat aimlessly taking in the sights which are quite memorable
-
I wonder what it's like to work or live in these
-
Cat on another honesty system store that was the next to the sign
-
These things are apparently to break up and prevent avalanches in the winter
-
Then we stopped for a bit when it started raining and we took cover under a roof's overhang before going back to make it for the dinner which was served from 7 to 8, breakfast is similarly from 8 to 9, no 7 to 11 breakfasts here, pic is inside the honesty shop after we got back
-
Dinner was ok but a bit non traditional where you might expect something more regional, was asian inspired 3 course menu with noodles and cucumber, then veggie curry and carrot cake, tomorrow I get the fondue for sure.
-
To wrap up the evening we played Cards Against Humanity since they had it at the inn: me, my wife, my father and his (neither of whom had played it before). Definitely not what i would have predicted given the nature of it but it was fun!
-
Now in bed and tomorrow we will do some hike(s)? That Guido recommended and who knows what else, sleeping one more night here, I was debating trying to paraglide for the first time but we'll see.
