Ok back to an early schedule but I did sleep in 30 mins pushing me to the next time train
-
On my way there now, looks like today and tomorrow will be overcast and cloudy so not much to be done but that's just how it be sometimes
-
Another goal of mine here will be to see the Pacific Ocean proper, which will likely be a bit a detour later today or tomorrow but I've just yet to see it. Last time I saw Tokyo Bay and and from Matsushima it's also a bay so I want to see the real deal!
-
Also lol, looking out the window while everything past Morioka was seemingly way past the red leaves climax down here in Sendai it's barely begun, unfortunate.
-
Train tracks just look too cool
-
Let's see how this plays out on a cloudy day
-
This kid has been walking to school by herself for a while, can't imagine that's too common in NA these days
-
I just passed the school and oops!
-
I made it to the bay
-
So one of the reasons I came here was because I thought, though these are all islands so I can go whenever even if it's really early, haha, guess not
-
😱
-
Godaidou Temple
-
The bridges are a bit spooky if you look down
-
Godaidou Temple from another vantage
-
I'll check some of the temples while things opem
-
But wait... Cat!?
-
They have these meditation caves kind of carved into into the rock
-
Almost at the temple itself
-
This pillar again, Buddhists are alright
-
Ok made it
-
I wonder if you unlock a hard mode route after you clear this once, also I feel like this museum is the sad little brother when the other direction is described like this
-
So one of the benefits of coming in early enough that I'm literally the only person in the building is that, the no photography signs become a little more optional... also my feet are really cold by the end of that Temple because it wasn't allowed to issues and it's kind of cold
-
Zen gardens are the best
-
Today's Buddhist saying of the day is pretty good
-
Some other things from that special exhibition on a Buddhist calendar
-
"Live together" is a good motto (共に生きる)
-
Those were all Zuiganji Temple now I'll pass through Entsuuin Temple
-
This one had a lot more trees and nature which is kind of cool, I kind of appreciate the fact that I get to see some of the transitions to the red leaves, even if it would probably be a little prettier if it were all brilliant red but
-
Also there's a huge difference between when I first got here like an hour ago and no in terms of number of tourists, damn tourists interrupting my perfect clean views
-
Heading to Ojima island now
-
And now some views from it
-
After a basically white out sky that washed out everything, I got so excited to see actual shadows when the sun briefly picked through. It hid again but at least there's some texture in the sky and small patches of blue, it's the little things
-
On the bridge to Fukuurajima Island
-
Made it, now to explore
-
It me
-
Rope to go and down hmmmm
-
Ok I didn't fall team
-
Cool smol beach
-
Another one
-
Now I'm here
-
Moving around there island's edges when possible
-
Looks like I'm almost done
-
Time to walk back and get some lunch, oysters are in season so....
-
This is apparently how you know it's 12
-
Oyster time!
-
Light lunch of raw, grilled and broiled oyster very very good
-
I can still taste the ocean 🤤
-
I'm getting an unintentional tour of the town while trying to see if a vantage point for the islands exists
-
A forgotten device from an alien culture?
-
Cool pine
-
If only it wasn't cloudy... 😭
-
Random cafe at the top of the hill, why not
-
This view while I wait is notbad.jpg
-
Nevermind I guess you had to write your name down and I didn't so I was just chilling for no reason...
-
Huh apparently the pine tree from before has a name on Google maps "Pine tree which made Saigyo return"
-
Dum clouds, views before I go down to get a boat tour of the islands
-
Willing to buy sidewalk these blind corners are spooky
-
You do get some nice views in this winding path
-
Zunda shake
-
And one more treat before getting some souvenir snacks and then boat
-
Almost
-
These are 笹かまぼこ (sasakama boko) a type of fish cake
-
Now on the boat to Shiogama with some scenic island views as I get there's from there I take the train back probably, actually I might look for an onsen and stop there if it's on the way
-
We're off!
-
This is actually prettier than I expected, though the islands are a bit far so don't photograph super well
-
Sky is gorgeous though, I lucked out that the clouds actually broke just for this ride after sucking the whole day
-
It also helped the sun actually light them up, as I'm arriving at the dock it hid again though
-
I'm happy the bad luck on clouds broke for the boat ride because it had been a bit of a bummer, it was a good way to end my Matsushima (one of Japan's Three Great Views as they remind you often there), just docked so time to head to the nearest JR station probably
-
Actually before a bath I might go watch Weathering With You, finally looks like there's a showing I can make
-
While waiting I might as well try this thing that I wrote down as a suggestion I got in one of my language exchanges, to drink this corn soup thing from a vending machine
-
Huh that was surprisingly decent, the corn kernels didn't feel too canned
-
Ok, at the theater so going to watch the movie finally
-
Before I say anything about the movie, apparently here they don't turn on the lights nor does anyone even move until after the credits finish, at least for this one (though it wasn't packed since it aired a whole ago here)
-
As for the movie I really enjoyed it and don't think I missed much due to language issues, Shinkai makes movies I like. Also I'm glad to have seen it in a theater as it's GORGEOUS, especially the water and rain.
-
Considering I've had clouds for the last few days and tomorrow it was also a well timed movie. The story was cute and pretty Shinkai with a good soundtrack, good vibes.
-
Trying to figure out where to sleep tomorrow, not sure which city to go to
-
I don't want to think about this now, I'll figure it out from the train tomorrow yolo
-
I went to a small izakaya near the hotel, was hoping it'd be a bit busier to talk some but it wasn't and the staff were busy with cleanup stuff
-
In better news the food was amazing, I got some beef tongue and chicken liver sashimi 🤤🤤🤤
The beef tongue like this I actually preferred to yesterday's more grilled style
-
The chicken liver sashimi was definitely new and delicious, closest I can describe it as is like a normal liver flavor with a more paté texture, I really enjoyed it so order 白レバー刺身 (shiro rebaa sashimi) if you're at an izakaya that serves it!
-
"Maybe I'll wake up extra early to see a sunrise over the Pacific", he thought naively
-
After looking at the path my ferry took I'm now internally confident enough to say I saw the Pacific proper that just a bay, so I'll skip the ride out partially because it's hard to get to the edge first thing in the AM from the train stations I have easy access to
